Our Most Precious Travel Find: Auberge La Fenière

I’ve been thinking about what should be the very first post on my Travel Finds page… and honestly, Nadia and the world she has created at Auberge La Fenière largely deserve it.

A heavenly place on 8 hectares of land, olive trees everywhere, and the sound of grasshoppers which instantly took me back to my childhood at our summer house. But the most exciting part was its story – the story of three Mediterranean women who passed down their skills over three generations — a lineage of inspiration, passion, and care that you can feel in every corner. Truly touching and deeply inspiring.

And it’s the first and only Michelin-starred gastronomic restaurant completely free of gluten – but it offers much more than a Michelin-starred meal – it’s warm, cozy, welcoming, and full of heart… humble despite the recognition, friendly despite the fame, and utterly magical.

It is a place where one nourishes and is nourished consciously. This philosophy is felt in every corner, every plate, and every member of the team. Nadia’s cuisine is centered around plants and the sea. Every ingredient has a story, and every dish honors the people and the seasons that make it possible. You feel the connection to the land in every bite. With their commitment to local agricultural networks, responsible and sustainable approach to gastronomy, they are also recognized with a Michelin Green Star.

Being a celiac herself, Nadia crafts a “cuisine libre” — fully gluten-free, generous, and welcoming — imagine a table where everyone is invited, included, and nourished.

The gastronomic part of the experience is unique and carefully thought out. As explained on their page:

“Here, Nadia Sammut orchestrates a process of culinary research where each contributor — farmer, fisherman, forager, artisan — brings together their sensitivity, passion, and precision. Together, they create a vibrant, deep, and delicate cuisine, where each dish tells a story of life and connection.
The dining room becomes a space of expression.
The service, a movement.
The table, an experience both intimate and collective.
Throughout the year, guests are invited to meet the producers, listen to their stories, and understand the gestures and seasons that nourish each plate — a sensitive conversation guided by taste.”

Honestly, nothing more can be said. We would have loved to return again and again since that summer, but life had other plans. Still, we can’t wait to go back a few more times in this lifetime, each visit a new memory waiting to be made.

If you ever get the chance to go, go with an open heart and a curious palate. This is one of those places you carry with you long after your last bite.

Thank you @aubergelafeniere and @nadiasammut from the bottom of our hearts 💙
